North Leamington School is committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audiences, including those with sight, audio and motor impairment restrictions.

All pages within the North Leamington School website should successfully validate as XHTML 1.0 Strict documents according to the guidelines laid down by the W3C. Occasionally errors do slip into the XHTML mark-up, either via human error or input mistakenly into the content management system. If you find a page which does not validate, please contact us, let us know which page the error is on and we will endeavour to fix it as soon as possible.

The CSS used to manipulate the appearance of this site should also validate according to CSS level 2.1 guidelines.

This site is working towards conformance to Double-A of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 1.0 (WVAG 1.0), including all Priority 1 and Priority 2 and some Priority 3 checkpoints as defined in the Guidelines.

Users browsing with Internet Explorer 8 and 7, Firefox 3 and Opera 9 will find that they can scale/zoom the entire page, including images where as old versions and and other browsers resize the text only.

Structure

The site has been developed using headings, paragraphs, lists and other HTML (HyperText Markup Language) to create a logical document structure.

Alternative to scripts or other controls which rely on client device capability have been provided.

Context

Where possible, all hyperlinks use descriptive and meaningful text as a call to action. Short-hand language, such as click here has been avoided. Additionally, meaningful alt attributes and/or titles have also been added to all images where appropriate.

A written style that is straightforward and understandable has been employed throughout the site.

Navigation

A standard layout and navigation structure is maintained throughout the site. Screen reader users can skip the main navigation and return to the head of the page using the links supplied.

Layout

Text is laid out using W3C standards validated style sheets. Users can change the style sheets in their browsers to make viewing easier for their individual requirements. The document standard used is XHTML 1.0 Strict.

Screen settings

In accordance with current browser display statistics, this website has been designed for a screen resolution of 1024 x 768. The resolution is the number of pixels or dots in an image.

If you are viewing this website on a lower resolution screen such as 800 x 600 pixels, the text and images will look larger, and horizontal scroll bars will appear.

Internet Explorer 6

Although this site will display content for users still using Internet Explorer 6 or lower, it does not fully represent the layout of the site as the developers intended. To receive the best possible browsing experience, users of IE6 are strongly advised to update to a newer version of the software, or use one of the many free alternatives available.

Mobile technology

This website has been tested for use on mobile devices. Please note that while all attempts have been made to avoid it's use, the video content of this site require Adobe Flash support to function properly. As mobile devices do not support Flash, we are currently unable to make this content available to those users.

The exception to this is users browsing the site with the Apple iPhone or iTouch. Alternative versions of the videos have been provided for these users compressed using the Quicktime H264 compression format. These videos are compatible with most Apple devices, meaning that iPhone and iTouch users can view the videos straight from the web, and those with iPods can download them via their desktop machines and transfer the video onto these devices using Apple iTunes.
